How to Review Your Audiobook

Otterpine will do a thorough “proof-listen” of your audiobook and you are welcome to as well, though it is not required.

When reviewing audiobooks before publication, we recommend reading along with the PDF of the book. It’s okay if there are a few spots here and there where the text doesn’t exactly match up, as long as the meaning stays intact. What you want to listen for are any spots where:

  • a word change affects the meaning of the passage
  • something is missing
  • you notice any technical issues
  • the actor’s performance drastically diverges from the intended tone of the passage.

If you do notice any issues that would require re-recording, please mark them in the PDF with a comment. Select the “Comment” Toolbar on the left hand menu, then use comments and highlights on the top bar for review.

Please also create a separate document (Word or Google docs is fine, or an Excel or Google Sheets spreadsheet) listing all the items needing correction. Include the following information:

  • audio file name
  • time location of issue in question
  • page number in PDF
  • description of problem that needs to be fixed

We will then review the notes from both of our reviews to determine what will require re-recording.
