Adam Levy Ethan Sherman String Theories
Introducing String Theories: Tips, Challenges, and Reflections for the Lifelong Guitarist by Adam Levy and Ethan Sherman

Otterpine is delighted to announce the release of String Theories by renowned guitarists Adam Levy and Ethan Sherman. This modern guide for guitarists is our first music-centered book release, and we’re quite jazzed about it!

Adam and Ethan joined their musical forces to create this comprehensive, one-of-a-kind resource for musicians that is structured for a lifetime of learning and is suitable for any guitar player at any level of experience. There are a lot of books for beginning guitarists out there, but this one is unique in that it also speaks to people at various points in their musical journeys—including established musicians who may have reached a plateau in their playing and are craving a new approach to growth.

From releasing his own albums, to recording with artists such as Norah Jones and Tracy Chapman, it’s safe to say that Adam Levy knows a thing or two about music. He has shared his knowledge at universities like University of Southern California and New York University, and through his popular YouTube channel, Guitar Tips

String Theories is enriched by Ethan Sherman’s wisdom and expertise as a guitarist, teacher, and composer. With knowledge and experience in many music genres (including his current tour with Michael Bublé), Ethan is a rockstar (figuratively and literally)!

Adam and Ethan’s expertise shines through their anecdotal asides throughout the book, and the presence of their supportive voices makes the reading experience feel like a conversation. Their encouragement reminds the reader to trust themselves by remembering how good it feels to hit the right note and intuitively follow their ears, and to grow their relationship with themselves as a guitar player by being their own “jam buddy.”

This timeless companion for guitar playing is structured with growth in mind as the authors coach the reader in three distinct ways: through quick tips, encouraging challenges, and deep prompts for reflection. Many lessons offer activities that can be done today, this month, and this year, helping guitarists set long-term goals with effective ways to keep on track.

String Theories is more than a practical guide—it’s a workbook for musicians to build and explore their guitar-playing philosophy. Adam and Ethan know how to dive deep. With an entire section dedicated to curious contemplation, the reader is sure to build lifelong skills beyond the fretboard.

There is truly no other guitar-playing companion guide out there that is as everlasting and adaptable as String Theories

We learned so much from Adam and Ethan while working on String Theories together, and we can’t wait to spread this knowledge to all the guitar players out there!

String Theories is available in E-book and paperback on Amazon.
